Your focus will be DCS automation projects for new production lines from design to handover to the customer. The projects typically last between 6 months and 3 years, and you will have overall technical responsibility for 1-3 projects at a time.
You will act as the overall technical authority, leveraging your deep automation expertise to drive large-scale automation projects supporting the different project teams totalling 20 to 25 application/project engineers. As Senior Lead Engineer, you will have the technical responsibility, and you will ensure consistency across the different packages within the project scope ensuring quality assurance and compliance with industry standards. You will translate customer requirements into functional specifications, primarily delegating, coordinating, and quality-assuring tasks, while also contributing hands-on when needed. Finally, you validate your solution to meet pharma regulations and industrial guidelines.
Your Responsibilities
- Act as the overall technical authority for pharma DCS automation projects, ensuring consistency and alignment across all work packages from design to final handover.
- Oversee the technical aspects of project deliveries, ensuring compliance with industry standards and maintaining the required quality level.
- Define and approve functional specifications for specific work packages, ensuring alignment with the overall project scope.
- Structure the project into logical work packages and provide technical guidance to package owners.
- Review and approve change orders, ensuring technical feasibility and integration across all project areas.
- Ensure a structured approach to testing activities (FAT/SAT) by coordinating technical input and validating test strategies.
- Support package owners by providing technical oversight and coordination while fostering collaboration across teams.
- Work closely with the technical project manager.
Your Background
- A technical education such as engineer or marine engineer or alternatively multiple years of relevant experience with automation within a pharma environment. Alternatively, you come from the pharma industry and have transitioned into automation.
- Experience within pharma, with a strong understanding of GMP, processes, batch control, and validation requirements.
- Experience with PLC programming – ABB’s 800xA training will be provided if needed.
- Motivation to mentor and support more junior colleagues.
- Ability to manage and coordinate complex projects with an overview-oriented approach.
- Systematic approach to documentation and compliance.
- Strong English skills – as the team operates in an international environment.

You will be part of ABB’s Pharma Engineering team, consisting of approximately 20 engineers in Denmark and an extended global network of 20-40 colleagues. As Senior Project Lead Engineer, you will guide project teams totalling 20 to 25 application/project engineers , both in Denmark and abroad. Beyond being a technical leader, you will contribute to fostering a supportive and collaborative work culture.
Whether you are based in Ballerup, Kalundborg, or Middelfart, you should expect to be on-site with clients at least once a week, with full on-site presence required during testing phases. ABB offers hybrid work arrangements with great flexibility.
